Capital Punishment page of Governor George Ryan’s website

On January 31, 2000, Illinois Governor George Ryan issued an executive order placing a moratorium on the execution of prisoners convicted of capital crimes.  On March 9, 2000,   Governor Ryan created a commission to study the capital punishment process in Illinois.  This webpage provides links to the executive order, committee members and the report from the Capital Punishment Reform Study Committee. This is an excellent source to obtain information on the Illinois death penalty before it was abolished.
